How To Take Care of Your Eyelashes Extensions

So you’ve walked out of the salon with your brand new set of beautiful eyelash extensions, and you’re feeling on top of the world.

As you should, you look amazing!

However there’s one problem… you’ve forgotten what your lash artist told you about aftercare.

Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us, but I’ve got your back.

This blog will help explain eyelash extension aftercare, and how to get the most out of your new set!

And if you work at a salon, you can use this blog to guide your clients through the process!

Aftercare Tips

Aftercare is so important when having eyelash extensions done.

Aftercare is going to help you get the most out of your lashes, including improving your retention.

Lash retention is all about keeping your new set of lashes looking full and gorgeous for longer. Each person's hair grows at a different pace, so there’s no definite answer on how long your lashes will last, but with proper aftercare, you can increase your retention time.

Eventually your lash extensions will shed and fall off of your natural lashes, so it is recommended you get your infill roughly every 3 weeks.

Here are your key aftercare tips!

Wash and brush your lashes with the recommended lash shampoo

With the right adhesive products you no longer need to wait to get your lashes wet!

We use an adhesive product called Superbonder, which cures the adhesive instantly and keeps the bonding together in an instant.

Dirty lashes are an absolute nightmare for extensions. You want to make sure that you are keeping your extensions safe by removing any dirt or bacteria

The Posh Deluxe Lash Shampoo is designed to help clients clean their natural lashes and extensions. It helps improve retention by eliminating dirt, oils and dead skin cells.

With the right product, you will be left with healthy and happy lashes that are sure to dazzle.

The lash cleanser brush is easy to use with this shampoo, simply work into the lash line and eyelid in gentle circular motions. If you are wearing makeup, once it has broken down, you can rinse the product from your eye and carefully pat dry the area with a towel.

Brushing your lashes with your lash wand, helps get rid of any extra residue that was missed in your clean, as well as making sure your lashes stay looking fabulous.

You will want to brush your eyelashes each morning when you wake up, as they can shift when you sleep. You may also want to brush after applying makeup, cleaning your lashes, and showering.

That may sound like a lot of brushing, but trust me, gentle, regular brushing makes a difference!

And with products as cute as these mascara wands, you’re sure to enjoy doing it.

Stay away from oily products around your eyes

Putting oily products on or around your lashes after extensions can cause retention issues. With eyelash extensions, who would need mascara? Throw it away!

Mascara will ruin the volume look of your lash fans, and it can be incredibly hard to take off.

If you want to wear makeup, we highly recommend eyeshadow instead of eyeliner. Anything that won’t create build ups around the eyelash extensions.

It’s also important that you consider other products, such as your moisturiser, makeup wipes, toner and even sunscreen. You want to make sure you opt for water based where possible, and avoid putting oily products on your skin.

Sleep on your back

If possible, sleeping on your back is going to help your eyelash retention.

Not all of us can choose to elegantly sleep on our back, and often go to bed with the best of intentions, but wake up face first snoring into our pillows.

This can have an impact on your eyelash extensions, so it’s important to be realistic. If you sleep on one side more than the other, you may notice that the eye on that side is losing more lashes.

It’s not the end of the world if you can’t control what position you sleep in, but where possible, try to only sleep on your back!

Don’t rub your eyes

If you’re a big fidgeter, this one may be a bit difficult to begin with, but you want to make sure that you avoid rubbing or touching your eyes.

The more you rub or touch, the more likely you are to shed lashes.

Keep your lashes away from heat

If you want to avoid singed lashes, then you need to stay away from heat. Keep your lashes away from any high heat situations, such as your blow dryer, oven, or stove.

You may or may not have heard the horror stories, but no one wants to deal with singed lashes!

These are the key aftercare tips that are going to help you keep those lashes looking lovely for longer! Each lash artist may have their own additional tips depending on their process, so if you’re ever in doubt, always contact your artist!
