Bronsun Brow Perm Guide: Step-by-Step for Australian Brow Artists
Long-Term Brow Perm by Bronsun
Posh Deluxe now stocks Bronsun's Long-Term Brow Perm system in Australia — an advanced, cysteamine-based formula that restructures and strengthens eyebrow hairs, holding your client's styling result for up to 6 weeks.
Unlike traditional perm systems built on thioglycolates or hydrogen peroxide, Bronsun's compositions work softly on the eyebrows, act extremely fast, and leave virtually no unpleasant odour. The formula contains no thioglycolates, ammonia, or hydrogen peroxide — the active ingredient is cysteamine, which is why the system works delicately but very effectively, protecting hair to the utmost during and after long-term styling.
Why We Rate It
Quick — express formula based on cysteamine, requires no glue.
Gentle — high concentration of care components.
Safe — soft effect on hairs and skin, with less vapour and unpleasant odour.
Convenient — bottle with a dispenser, generous 10 ml volume.
Results: effect lasts up to 6 weeks, delivers the desired eyebrow shape, and gives a quick result in just 30 minutes.
Contraindications — When Not to Use
Brow perm is a gentle service, but it's still a chemical process. As with any brow or lash treatment, always do a patch test and check in with your client before booking them in. Avoid the procedure — or wait until it's safe to proceed — in the following situations:
- Recent Botox or anti-wrinkle injections — wait at least 14 days after treatment before performing a brow perm.
- Active skin conditions in the brow area — including dermatitis, active breakouts, cuts, or open wounds. Wait until the skin has fully healed.
- Eczema on or around the eyebrows — the compositions can irritate compromised or inflamed skin; avoid the area entirely if eczema is present.
- Pregnancy — as a precaution, many clients and salons choose to avoid chemical brow and lash services during pregnancy. Advise clients to check with their doctor if unsure.
- Known allergy or sensitivity to cysteamine — cysteamine is the active ingredient in this system. Patch test 24–48 hours beforehand, and don't proceed if any redness, itching, or swelling occurs.
- Freshly tinted brows — wait at least 48 hours after a tint before starting a brow perm, to avoid over-processing the hairs and skin.
If your client falls into any of the above, hold off on the service and recommend they check with a GP or dermatologist first. When in doubt, don't proceed — a short delay is always safer than an adverse reaction.

Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Cleanse the eyebrow area with an oil-free makeup remover.
2. Degrease with saline solution or eyebrow shampoo. Scrubs and peels are a no-go when prepping the brows.
3. Apply zone gel to the skin around the eyebrows, avoiding contact with the hairs.
4. Comb the eyebrows with a disposable spoolie into the desired direction and shape, working with natural hair growth to avoid creasing.
5. Apply Composition #1 Brow Lift in a thin layer on dry eyebrows. Exposure time depends on hair type:
|
Hair type |
Exposure time |
|---|---|
|
Thin, porous hairs |
2–4 minutes |
|
Medium thickness / previously chemically treated |
4–6 minutes |
|
Coarse, dense, thick / never chemically treated |
5–15 minutes |
Always monitor the condition of the hairs during exposure.
6. Remove Composition #1 completely with a wet cotton pad, moving in the direction of hair growth. Reshape with the spoolie.
7. Apply Composition #2 Brow Sculpt, spreading along the hairs to lock in the desired direction. Same exposure time as step 5.
8. Remove Composition #2 completely with a wet cotton pad.
9. Tint with Bronsun dye: mix cream developer with dye per the standard instructions, but reduce exposure time to 2–5 minutes — perm procedures need less time than standalone tinting.
10. Remove the dye with a wet cotton pad.
11. Apply Composition #3 Brow Essence on dry eyebrows with the spoolie to set the final shape. Do not rinse.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Bronsun Brow Perm safe?
A: Yes, when used correctly by a trained brow artist. Bronsun uses cysteamine (a naturally-
occurring amino acid derivative) instead of the more aggressive thioglycolate found in some perm solutions, making it gentler on the hair and skin. Always patch test new clients.
Q: How is Bronsun Brow Perm different from lash lifting solutions?
A: Both use similar restructuring chemistry, but Bronsun Brow Perm is specifically formulated for the thicker, coarser hair of eyebrows. It has different processing times and is designed to hold a stronger, more permanent lift on brow hair than lash lift solutions would.
Q: How long does the Bronsun brow perm result last?
A: The perm lift lasts up to 6 weeks on most clients, depending on brow hair growth cycle, aftercare compliance, and how frequently the client washes or scrubs the eyebrow area.
Q: Can I combine Bronsun perm with tinting?
A: Yes. Most brow artists apply the perm first, then tint immediately afterwards. Bronsun's
ammonia-free tint is specifically designed to be safe for use during the perm service.
Q: What is the difference between Brow Lift, Sculpt and Essence?
A: Brow Lift (Step 1) is the lifting solution that opens the hair structure. Brow Sculpt (Step
2) is the neutraliser that fixes the hairs in the new position. Brow Essence (Step 3) is the
nourishing finishing product that conditions and restores moisture to the newly permed
hairs.
Q: Is Bronsun Brow Perm suitable for sensitive skin?
A: For most sensitive skin clients, yes. Bronsun's ammonia-free, cysteamine-based formula is gentler than traditional perm solutions. Always patch test 24–48 hours before the full service on any client with a history of sensitivity or reactions.
Q: Can I use Bronsun Brow Perm on clients who are pregnant?
A: Discuss with the client's GP or midwife first. Most Australian professional guidance recommends avoiding perm-style chemical treatments during pregnancy out of caution.
